Bringing innovation to market

The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG) provides entrepreneurial life sciences enterprises in Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania with the resources and tools they need to make global advances in research and patient care.

We promote the relationship between research, technology and commercialization with Capital Investment and Business Growth programs that have been specifically tailored to the needs of western Pennsylvania's life sciences industry.

Concept to Commercialization TM

PLSG primarily focuses on guiding researchers, entrepreneurs and emerging companies through the difficult challenges faced in the early stages of company development. By helping them build sustainable business models and secure capital investments, we make it possible for companies to deliver biomedical innovations to the marketplace more quickly and efficiently than they ever could alone.

In addition to nurturing young companies, we fuel the expansion of life science companies in the growth and maturity stages by supporting new product and market developments and by introducing them to new investors.

Targeted product and service concentrations

We direct our support to life sciences companies developing product and service innovations in the following concentrations: medical devices, therapeutics, diagnostics/screening, biotechnology services and health information technology.

Mission

PLSG will foster the development of a research and economic community that will put Pittsburgh at the forefront of the life sciences industry and will accelerate the introduction of biomedical innovations to the marketplace.

Vision

PLSG believes Pittsburgh can build upon its existing strengths to become a worldwide hub for research, clinical care and biosciences entrepreneurs whose companies will be leaders in several targeted areas of the life sciences.

History

PLSG was founded as a public/private partnership in 2001 by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Pittsburgh's regional foundation community.
