Huntington Breakfast Briefing
August 21, 2018 @ 7:00 am - 9:15 am
When: Tuesday, August 21, 2018
Where: The Rivers Club, One Oxford Center, 4th Floor
The Pittsburgh Technology Council is pleased to present Farnam Jahanian, newly appointed president of Carnegie Mellon University. A nationally recognized computer scientist, entrepreneur, public servant and higher education leader, Dr. Jahanian has extensive leadership and administrative experience as well as expertise in translating research into technologies and practices that benefit society.
Dr. Jahanian will discuss how academia and industry may partner and support each other to grow Pittsburgh’s competitiveness as a global leader in technology. He will also discuss CMU’s strategy to impact society in a transformative way—regionally, nationally, and globally—by engaging with partners outside the traditional borders of the university campus.
Prior to coming to Pittsburgh and CMU, Jahanian led the National Science Foundation Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE). He guided CISE, with a budget of almost $900 million, in its mission to advance scientific discovery and engineering innovation through its support of fundamental research. Dr. Jahanian has been an active advocate for how basic research can be uniquely central to an innovation ecosystem that drives global competitiveness and addresses national priorities.
We invite you to enjoy breakfast, network, and learn more about one of Pittsburgh’s most respected institutions – and why it’s important to YOU and your business.
